ELLIS, John Ernest  -  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father on December 16, 2018 at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby, at 87 years of age.

Left to mourn him are his beloved wife Mavis, son Colin (Christine) and daughters Kimberley and Megan Bonaldo (Richard), and grandchildren Anna Ellis and Andrew and Paige Bonaldo.

"Joe", as he was called, is survived by sisters Mae Dyke (Keith), Reta Hart (Ian) and Carol Scott (Brian) and many nieces and nephews across Canada and beyond. He was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Rita, sister Ruth Cassie (Jim) and brothers-in-law John Arthur "Ian" Hart and Kenneth Heyes (Patricia).

Born on September 17, 1931 and raised in Toronto at "buck and a half" Alton Avenue, John eventually moved to Bramalea (now Brampton) to raise his family. He had a 43 year career in the civil service as a surveyor and draftsman with the Ministry of Transportation (DHO, MTC)

His last years were especially difficult as he battled COPD to which he eventually succumbed. We were privileged to have the "original" quiet man with a heart of gold, in our life. Farewell dearest John, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Visitation at Stonehouse - Witcomb Funeral Home, Grimsby, on Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A private funeral service for family will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made in John's memory to the Ontario Lung Association.
