Zalik JoeZALIK, Josef 'Josko' - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Josef (Joško) Žalik, a dearly loved brother, uncle and friend, on Wednesday April 17, 2019. He passed peacefully into God’s loving arms, at Mississauga Trillium Hospital, surrounded by his loving sister, nieces and nephew-in-law.

Joško was a loving brother to sister Tila Ludvik (and her late husband Milan) of Toronto, brother Toni and wife Danica of Alberta, as well as a loving companion to Maria Prša. He was predeceased by his sister Mariča of Velika Polana, Slovenia, brother Štefan (and wife Anne) of Alberta, and sister Ana Gerkeš (and her late husband Martin) of Oshawa.

He was a kind and caring uncle/Uči to Ellen (Cosimo) and Ana Marie (Michael), and a wonderful great-uncle to Emily, Simon, Ben and Charlie.

In Alberta, he will be remembered by his niece Sylvia, sister of his late nephew John (Jeanette), nephews David (Pamela) and Robert (Anne), and his late nephew Martin of Oshawa.

Joško was a hardworking man of faith who was devoted to his family and friends, always ready to lend a hand, offer his support, or engage in a lively discussion. He spent many happy days with Maria at the Slovenian Summer Camp (aka the Slovenian Farm), where he loved to break bread and enjoy the good company of his many longtime friends.
He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all those he leaves behind in Ontario, Alberta, the United States and Slovenia.

Our heartfelt thanks to Fr. Tine Batič and Fr. Leopold Valant, who visited Joško in hospital and provided comfort and prayer to him and his family. A special note of thanks as well to the doctors, nurses and medical staff who took care of him during his time in the ICU at Trillium, and who helped make his final days as comfortable as possible.

Family and friends will be received at Ridley Funeral Home, Etobicoke on Monday April 22nd, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday April 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 739 Browns Line, Etobicoke followed by burial at Assumption Catholic Cemetery (6933 Tomken Rd., Mississauga).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joško’s name to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).
