Sethian Sahag IsaacSETHIAN, Sahag 'Isaac' - (1941 - 2021) - Sahag “Isaac” Sethian passed away on Friday January 22, 2021.

He was born in Aleppo, Syria on November 19, 1941 to Seth and Levonig Sethian. He was the eldest of two children, with a younger sister named Grace.

He grew up in Aleppo where he lived with his parents and sister until 1962, when he relocated to Lebanon to continue his education. In 1966, he attained his Masters of Engineering in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications, and subsequently a Masters of Business Administration at the American University of Beirut.

On February 6, 1972, he married Maral Moubahyajian and together they were blessed with three children, Raffi, Taline, and Shant.

In August 1982, Sahag and his family immigrated to Canada where he became an active contributor to the Armenian community, particularly the school. He dedicated his efforts toward enhancing the curriculum as the Chairman of the School Board. Over the years, he has enthusiastically contributed his time and effort to countless initiatives within the Armenian church and school alike.

After his arrival in Canada, he continued working as a Telecommunications Engineer at Nortel Networks, leading the management of fibre optics telecommunications networks across the world. Though his career lent him a unique opportunity to travel to numerous countries across Europe and Asia, he always cherished his time at home with his family in Toronto the most.

Sahag never wanted to stop learning. While working full-time and raising a family, he attained an Executive MBA from the University of Western Ontario in 1997, and later pursued his Project Management Professional certification. This, coupled with his passion for education propelled him to make a career shift in 2003, at which time he became a professor of Project Management at several colleges. Throughout his tenure, he was an integral contributor to the program’s development and ultimately became the program coordinator. Indeed, with an unyielding work ethic and steadfast devotion to his students, he continued to teach until his final days.

Sahag had a quick wit and a booming laugh, and was always ready to share a funny anecdote. He was a man of diverse interests. Amusingly, he was just as happy engaging in heated intellectual discussions as he was watching ridiculous prank videos. He loved classical music, reading, sitting out in the fresh air with a radio, good food, and family gatherings.

The absolute greatest joy of Sahag’s life was his five grandchildren – Garen, Nicholas, Emma, Philip, and Christian. He loved spending time with them, joking with them, playing games with them, and just watching them grow up.

He led his life with an unwavering dedication to the Armenian community, his colleagues and students, but above all to his family and faith. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the A.R.S. Armenian Day School can be made in his honour. https://acc.akaraisin.com/Donation/Event/DonationInfo.aspx?seid=23446&mid=50

Arrangements are entrusted with Kane-Jerrett funeral home, Thornhill. The funeral will be livestreamed on Thursday January 28th, beginning at 11 am.  Further, it will be available to be seen for 30 days following the funeral service.
