Szechy MarySZECHY, Marietta 'Mary' Judy - It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Marietta (Mary) Szechy announces her peaceful passing on March 16th, 2021 at age 84.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Dennis; children: Maria (Michael) and Dennis Jr. (Kathy); grandchildren: Christopher (Jessica), Cassandra (Leonardo), Stephanie (Andrew), Colin and Justin; great-granddaughter Charlotte; and sisters, Helen Szablya (Seattle, WA) and Elizabeth Nemethy (Toronto).

She was predeceased by her parents Louis and Helen (née Bartha) Kovacs.

Marietta was born in Budapest, Hungary and bravely emigrated in 1956 with then fiancé Dennis when she was just under 20 years old.

Marietta and her family lived in Winnipeg, Halifax and then eventually settled in Toronto. We cherish the memories of her as a gentle, caring and graceful person with a warm heart, quick smile, tireless interest and concern for others. Marietta loved to host family celebrations and dinners in Toronto and at the cottage in Muskoka.

She loved to travel with her husband and family, back to Hungary and to many other places in the world. She enjoyed walking, swimming, and other active outings especially with her children and grandchildren. Music was an important part of her life. Marietta used her extraordinary skills to build a successful business, designing and creating couturier clothing, including elaborate wedding gowns. She was a woman of great faith and prayer, and an inspiring example of a life well-lived.

Marietta will be greatly missed by all of the lives she touched in so many special ways.

We are extremely grateful for the exceptional care and compassion extended to Marietta by all of the dedicated staff at Cummer Lodge Long-Term Care facility, and previously at Revera Don Mills Retirement Home.

A private family service is being planned. Arrangements entrusted with Paul O'Connor funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
