Balez MaryBALEZ, Mary Ellen Fountain - It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Balez announce her passing on June 22, 2021 at the age of 74. She passed on peacefully after battling cancer for several months, with her husband Lionel by her side.

Beloved daughter of the late Thomas Joseph Fountain and his wife Kathleen, Mary Ellen was born and raised in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto with siblings David Kirkman Fountain (Joan), the late Thomas Robert Fountain (Ev) and the late Suzanne Lois Fountain Borst (John).

As a teenager she moved with her family to Etobicoke where she completed high school at Burnhamthorpe Collegiate, and then attended Junior College, Academy of the New Church, in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania.

After Ontario Teachers College and a period as a teacher, she started her successful career in business. She spent many years working on Bay Street for Royal Trust before starting her own bookkeeping business that catered to real estate brokers.

In 1972 she married Lionel Balez and became a much loved member of his large Sudbury-based family. She was sister-in-law to the late Lorraine Mazzuchin (Alfio), the late Rene Balez (Nila), Andre Balez (Jane), Jacques Balez (Llynne), Paul Balez (Charlotte) along with Adeline, Liz and Donna.

Mary Ellen and Lionel resided in Brampton for over 45 years, a location that strategically placed them in the center of many of their nieces and nephews. The far-flung location of family and friends also provided opportunities for many trips in North America and overseas.

Due to current Covid restrictions, A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

If desired Memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes Canada.
