CHAU, Veronica Tai Hing - Veronica Chau died suddenly on Sunday, September 26th, 2021 at age 93.
Veronica registered as a nurse in Hong Kong in 1951, initially specialising in surgical nursing and in 1953 also gained qualification as a midwife. She enjoyed a stellar career rising through the ranks, eventually becoming the head matron at the Queen Mary Hospital, a leading teaching hospital in Hong Kong.
She was later promoted to the executive team of the Department of Health, that oversaw the running and training of the Hong Kong nursing fraternity.
Veronica set high standards for future generations of nurses to come. She was well respected by her junior colleagues who she nurtured and mentored, some of whom would become her closest friends.
She emigrated to Canada in 1978 following retirement.In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling, cooking good food and spending time with family and friends. In her later life, she developed an interest in major league baseball and premier league soccer. She was also an avid follower of soap operas, never missing an episode of “Days of our lives” and “All My Children."
She was generous with many charities as well as with her time, especially with family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
