Sutherland SusannaSUTHERLAND, Susanna Edith  -  It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susanna Edith Sutherland on January 3, 2024.

She was surrounded by her family and the prayers of all those she had known and loved.

Beloved mother of Ted and his wife, Courtney Knude, and Fr. Juan Diego CFR.

Proud grandmother of Sarah and Joshua Knude. Susann was the loving sister of Barb Wade (late Art Wade) and devoted aunt of their children, Nancy, Jim, and the late Wendy.

She was predeceased by her cherished big brother the late Bob Sutherland (Ilse) and aunt of their children, Morrell and Richard. She was "The Great Aunt Sue" to Jenna, Tom and Rob Wade and dear aunt to Dorothy Wade. Susann's faith and generous spirit of service was a blessing to countless people during her almost 83 years of life.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York in 1941, Susann immigrated to Canada with her family in 1947.

She was educated at Blessed Sacrament and St. Josephs College School. After graduation, she became an X-Ray Technician and worked at Saint Michaels Hospital. She married in 1967.

While raising her two sons on her own and working full-time, Susann returned to school and obtained her Masters Degree in Social Work. She worked for years in that field effecting positive change in the lives of countless people.

Susann was an active, enthusiastic member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church for the past 30 years. Her faith strengthened and sustained her throughout her life.

At Sorrows, she served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion often visiting the sick and home bound parishioners.

The friendships that she formed at the parish were very dear to her. In her retirement, Susann was a committed volunteer for years with the Sisters of Life Pregnancy Care Mission, The Elizabeth Fry Society, The Haven, The Scott Mission, and St. Dorothy's Catholic School.

A visitation and prayer service will be held on Wednesday, January 10th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Yorke Chapel, Turner and Porter Funeral Home, at 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 3055 Bloor St. W., Toronto.
