Purnell ValeriePURNELL, Valerie Muriel "Val" (nee Stewart)  -

November 29, 1942 September 10th, 2023

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa after suffering a stroke at the age of 80.

Predeceased by parents Charles and Irene (Feaver) Stewart.

Devoted mother of Nicholas (Pam), Barbara (Roger) and Philip (Helen).

Doting grandmother to Jessica, Samantha, Caeley and Olivia, and devoted Gigi to Anabelle, Violet and Lily.

Cherished sister to John (late Anne) and Lynda (Richard), and proud aunt to Karen, Robert (Jeanine), Claire (James), and James (Amy).

She will be fondly remembered by stepsons Raymond and George and their families.

Val will be deeply missed by her dear friends Nilma, Diana and Donna. Val will also be deeply missed by her extended family at the Mary St. N Community Garden where she spent much of her time sharing her enthusiasm for gardening and making connections with everyone.

She will be fondly remembered by Liz and her dominos companions, and her many friends at No Frills, H&R Block and Liberty Tax. Val's caring and fun-loving personality made her friends where ever she lived, worked or played.

A special thank you to the critical care and palliative nurses at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Val during her stay.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will follow at a later date. The family will extend an invitation to all who knew her.

If you wish to make a donation in Val's name they would be gratefully accepted at the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any other charity of your choice.

Val would want you to remember to chose kindness, to take care of each other, and that a smile cost nothing.

"Let an inch of surprise become a mile of gratefulness" - brother David Steindl-Rast.
