Légère JeanneLÉGÈRE, Jeanne D'Arc (née Lanteigne) -

NOVEMBER 28, 1928 – DECEMBER 23, 2023

Passed away at Ballycliffe Long Term Care Home, Ajax, on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the age of 96 years.

Dearly beloved wife of 75 years to late Nicholas.

Loving mother of Lise Watt (Brian), Roger (Patricia), and Paul (Cathy).

Cherished grandma of Roger Watt (Nancy), Gregory Watt (Connie), Paul Légère, Amey Légère (Kaitlin), Rebecca Fontoura (Kyle), Eric Légère; and great grandma of Mikaela Stirpe, Ava-Lise Stirpe, Madelyn Fontoura, and Leah Watt.

Predeceased by her siblings and their spouses; Amanda "Ninine" Friolet, Aurélien Lanteigne, Louisa Robichaud, Noella Battah, Pascal Lanteigne, and Lilianne Lanteigne.

Daughter of the late Henri Lanteigne and Lorette Légère of Lower Caraquet, New Brunswick.

Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, Légère family members, and friends. Jeanne will be remembered for the loving and nurturing home that she created for her husband Nicholas and her 3 children.

Once married, she left her childhood home in New Brunswick in the late 1940’s to follow Nick to Ontario to make a better life for themselves and their future family. They even travelled to Pakistan for 2 years with their 2 oldest children in the late 1950’s – something totally “out there” at the time and a decision that was not readily accepted by her parents at the time.

Upon their return they settled in the Toronto area and Jeanne became involved in the church, made some new lifelong friends, learned to sew, crochet and needlepoint and often volunteered in her children’s schools and/or activities.

She was an avid reader and loved her soap operas too. Jeanne was a great cook (everyone’s favorite being her famous spaghetti sauce), was known for her love of baking, especially her famous fudge, and for trying out new recipes on the family who thoroughly looked forward to it.

She always arrived at a family member’s home with a tray of fudge and/or baked goods. This is one of the fondest memories shared by everyone in her family – young or old.

A visitation for Jeanne D’Arc will be held Thursday December 28th, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10 AM at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church (91 Ribblesdale Dr, Whitby). Interment afterwards at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery (355 Taunton Rd E, Whitby).

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeanne's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society Durham Region, https://alzheimer.ca/durham/; and Holy Family Parish, Whitby, https://www.holyfamilywhitby.ca/.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at oshawafuneralhome.com for the Légère family.
