MATHUS, Arnold Peter Mathus  - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Arnold Peter Mathus announce his passing at Bowmanville Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 88 years.

Arnie is predeceased by his loving wife Donna of 58 years.

Left to mourn his passing are daughters Lori Bauman (Derek), Shelley Bernabei (Emilio) and grandchildren Brennah and Emma Bauman and Chloe and Travis Bernabei.

Arnie was born in the Crowsnest Pass AB to Lithuanian immigrant parents. They eventually moved to Manitoba to farm. Dad would fondly recall a snowy owl named Hooty that became like a pet. From Manitoba the family moved to Vancouver BC and opened a pool hall, where Dad learned to shoot a mean game.

He attended the University of British Columbia and earned a degree in geology.

After spending some time surveying in Northern Canada, he joined the military in a civilian position as a meteorologist.

While stationed in Ontario he met and married Donna. After postings in Trenton ON and Cold Lake AB, they moved to Comox BC, where Dad eventually retired. He was quite happy living on the West Coast as it allowed him to play golf 9 months a year.

Dad's passion was golf, but turned down the opportunity to go pro as he figured that would take the fun out of it.

Most of his friendships were made in a club house and you always knew where to find him. In their later years Dad and Mom moved back to Ontario and enjoyed being close to extended family.
