Pistore CarmelaPISTORE, Carmela Pistore  -   76 years of age, from Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 after a lengthy battle and complications fighting leukemia.

Carmela Pistore was born in October 1947 in Monteleone, Di Puglia, Italy.

Carmela Pistore immigrated from Italy to Canada over 70 years ago with her mother and brother to join her father and eldest brother.

Carmela had various jobs but built a career with the Toronto Catholic District School Board in 1979 at St. Demetrius as a "secretary" for the growing Ukrainian elementary school in Etobicoke.

It was here that Carmela found her calling as secretary, administrator, caregiver, nurse and (some days) part-time Ukrainian and part-time principal.

Carmela will be remembered for her selflessness and sacrifice to her family and friends and all those around her.

Carmela was blessed with the gift of giving, kindness, laughter, optimism and a strong belief in her faith.

Without a doubt, Carmela's favourite thing was being the most loving Nonna to her 6 grandchildren and 3 fur-grandchildren.

Carmela was a mother to three adoring children, Tom, Tina and Stella.

Carmela was a mother-in-law to Mark, Neil, Melora and Candice. Carmela was a grandmother to Mia, Sara, Parker, Noah, Angelo and Antonio and fur-grandmother to Roxy, Callie, Ritsa and Juno.

Carmela was predeceased by her parents, Angelo and Rocchina Morra; and her brother, Anthony Morra; and is survived by her brother, Joe Morra.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home, 2960 Dufferin Street, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. and Friday, April 12, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.  Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at St. Domenic's Catholic Church on (625 Atwater Avenue, Mississauga), at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: McMaster, Faculty of Health Sciences, Berg Research Lab at: https://berglab.healthsci.mcmaster.ca or Toronto Humane Society at: https://www.torontohumanesociety.com.
