Smalley IreneSMALLEY, Irene (nee GOODE)   - Peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Michael Garron Hospital at the age of 86.

Predeceased by her loving husband Bob. Dear mother to Kathryn, Robert (Ferne), Peter and Kevin (Sheila).

Cherished Nanny of Kristin, Devon, Gemma, Shannen and Megan.

Daughter of the late Archie and Kate Goode.

Will be greatly missed by her brothers Jim and Pete and her extended family and friends in England. Born and raised in London, England, Irene survived both the Depression and WWII, including the bombing of her family home.

After a chance encounter with a young Canadian at a friend's wedding, she decided to marry Bob and immigrate to Canada.

Bob and Irene spent close to 55 years together until Bob's passing in 2012.

While raising a family, Irene also spent many years advocating for children by volunteering in the community as a Brownie leader, a Home and School executive member and, along with Bob, a founding member of the Adam Beck Community Centre committee.

Irene was also passionate about helping young children with learning difficulties, and she spent several years as a Special Educational Assistant in a couple of East Toronto primary schools.

A committed lifelong social democrat, Irene was a member of the British Labour party and an active member of the NDP. Irene and Bob are together again.

An informal gathering to celebrate her life will be held at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, Scarborough, on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Diabetes Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated..
