KOSSTA, Giannoula (nee BABARIS) - September 5, 1923 - November 20, 2018
Having lived a life filled with love for her children, Giannoula passed away surrounded by their love.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Elias. Dear mother to Vassilios, Chrisanthy Foulidis and her husband Dimitrios, Stefanos and Pavlos.
Cherished grandmother to Gregorios and his wife Marion, and Elias.
Adored great-grandmother to Dimitrios and Chrisanthos. Sister to Chris Babaris and his wife Petroula.
Predeceased by her brother Stoyiannis and his surviving widow Thomayi. She will be missed by her numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives in Canada, Greece and Australia.
The eldest child of Stavros and Olga Babaris, Giannoula was born in Skopia, Florina in the Macedonian region of Greece. Giannoula endured the struggles of many immigrant women of her generation.
Having persevered through WWII and the Greek Civil War, she also raised four children in Greece while her husband worked tirelessly to bring them to Canada.
After reuniting in Canada, Giannoula and Elias built a new life for their family.
Giannoula was also a very devoted parishioner of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church and its Women's Auxiliary Philoptochos.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Scarborough Hellenic Home for the care of their mother.
Visitation will be held at Hereitage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Blvd., on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 115 Bond Street, Toronto, at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Interment to follow.
