Kosar StephanieKOSAR, Stephanie Ann (Dmytryk)  - We sadly announce the passing of Stephanie Ann Kosar (82) on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at the Mississauga Trillium Hospital.

Born September 14, 1936, Toronto, ON, she was the only child of the late Volodymyr and Rosalia Dmytryk (Sambir, Ukraine).

Attending Ukrainian school, performing Ukrainian folk dancing and music (violin and voice) at UNF instilled her strong Ukrainian roots.

A graduate of Parkdale Collegiate Institute in Toronto (1955), she went on to obtain her B.A (1958) and B Ed. (1959), a rarity for women to attain higher education in her day.

She taught public and high school Geography and French and because of her teaching skills, she was offered a position as head of a French department.

In 1959, she married her love, Eugene Walter Kosar, and in 1962 moved to Coniston, ON, to raise 2 daughters. She was involved in many activities at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church.

Her strong Ukrainian heritage were passed on to her daughters by taking them to Ukrainian school and church. Even when the family moved to Barrie, ON (1971), she drove her daughters every Saturday to Toronto to continue their Ukrainian schooling.

Her teaching background provided a strong foundation and passion for learning to her daughters. She pursued her passion in cooking, sewing, reading, music, teaching and even as medical receptionist, she always offered patients comfort and support. In 2012, she moved to Mississauga, ON to be near her daughters and grandchildren. She was known for her kind and compassionate spirit to all.

Stephie is survived by her cherished husband Dr. Eugene, her loving daughters, Lesia and Dr. Katherine (Dr. Patrick Safieh), proud “Babchi” of Jacqueline, Danielle, Peter and Nicole, cousins Bill and Michael Dmytryk, Mary Kavalski, sister-in-law Barbara Kosar (predeceased by Dr. Stephen Kosar), 5 nephews- Dr. Steven , William, Paul, Andrew and Dr. Gregory. Other cousins residing in the United States are Dr. Cheryl Naulty (Walter Hill), Joanne Zajac, Frank Kushner (Jane). She will be missed by many dear friends.

A special thank you to Dr. Adesanya and all the nursing staff on the 6th floor for all their care and compassion for making her final days comfortable.

Viewing will be held at Newediuk Funeral Home, Kipling Chapel, Toronto on Friday, January 4, 2018 from 5-8 p.m., with Panakhyda at 7:30 p.m. The following day private funeral services will be held for close family members, followed by interment.
