Tavares DoroteaTAVARES, Dorotea (nee Moniz Raposo De Melo) - Peacefully Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 87 years.

Beloved wife of Manuel Tavares for 62 years. Loving mother of Joe (Barbara), Rita (Victor), Danny (Kim), Baby John (predeceased), John (Katrina), Peter (Misty).

Cherished Vavoa of John (Aryne), Laura, Barbara, Simon, Jennifer, Ryan, Daniel, Justin, Breanne, Jonathan, Bethany, and Great Vavoa of Jace.

Dorotea was a devoted Roman Catholic and was very active in the Portuguese community for all her years in Canada and her native land, St. Miguel, Acores, Portugal. Four of her six children were born in St. Miguel, where her fourth born still remains. She suffered the loss of her baby son without her husband Manuel, who was in Bermuda working to begin the process of building their future move to Canada. This brought such pain however, did not interfere with her becoming the great lady she became.

Coming to Canada, she joined again with her loving husband after a 3 year separation to start a new life which brought two more children, as well as her parents and her husband’s parents.

She ran an extremely busy household, but handled it all with ease with the help of what she enjoyed so much. For those fortunate to be close by her in Mass or in her home for rosary gatherings, her singing brought attention to many and brought comfort and joy. Dorotea’s singing was something to listen to.

She and Manuel worked as a team like no other… although their house was full of their own, they welcomed all and would make their home available to any in need. They especially enjoyed those who stayed when passing through on retreats; hearing stories and sharing their own.

The simplest of things is what really brought the most joy to her. If you wanted to see what brought the greatest of happiness to Dorotea, it was to be surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was always at her happiest spending time with them and having them in her prayers.

Visitation at Scott funeral home, Mississauga chapel on December 5th from 1 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 9pm.  Funeral Mass at Cristo Rei Parish, Mississauga, on December 6th at 10:00 a.m.  Burial to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens, Oakville at 11:30 a.m.

In Lieu of flowers any donations made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
