MARKSFIELD, Sylvia - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Sylvia Marksfield on Sunday, March 7, 2020.
Sylvia, born in 1922, was predeceased by her parents Ida and Joseph Marksfield, and her siblings Dr. Ben Wolepor, Ted Wolepor, Pauline Wolepor, Myers Marksfield, Sadie Creatchman, Dr. William Marksfield and Harry Marksfield.
She was also very proud of her three nieces Jo Aranoff, Montreal, Judy Gozlan, Florida and Marsha Landsberger, Texas.
Sylvia graduated from MacDonald College School for Teachers in 1941 and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sir George Williams University and a Masters degree in French from Middlebury College in Vermont.
She embarked on a career in teaching, first as a classroom teacher, then as a specialist in French teaching and ended her career as Principal of one of the French Immersion schools in Montreal.
She was a voice student of Madame Pauline Donalda in Montreal and sang in the chorus of the Montreal Opera Guild. She played the piano for her own enjoyment and also loved theatre, opera and playing bridge.
During the past years she was most grateful for the love and care given her by her caregiver, Joanne Peddle.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue Section at Dawes Road Cemetery, 3169 St. Clair Avenue East, Scarborough.
