Pissas SteviePISSAS, Stylianos "Stevie"

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when the day is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times, and laughing times and bright sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun
of happy memories that i leave behind when the day is done.

Born in Ayios Dometios Cyprus on August 1, 1937. The eldest child of Charalambos and Kyriaki Pissas. Lived in Leicester England with his brother Peter in his twenties, returned to Cyprus and owned a small market which he converted to a kafeneio.

He married Christina (nee Kypri) on October 31, 1965, and had two children, Trula and Kypros. Dad worked at the Cyprus Tavern in Nicosia, were he met the Canadian Ambassador to Cyprus and Israel. As he spoke great English, he built a relationship with the Ambassador, who helped him emigrate to Canada.

In 1969, Stylianos moved to Toronto while his family followed a year later. He started his hospitality career in Canada at Dutch Sisters on Lakeshore Blvd, and later 25 plus years at Casa Mendoza. Lived in Leslieville until 1976 until the family moved to Applewood Heights in Mississauga. Mom and Dad purchased a restaurant in Brampton “Cyprus Grill” and worked tirelessly until selling and planning on their retirement.

We have a lot of great memories of our Dad: Trula will remember that he would always say “How's my koukla (doll) today” every time he saw her; as a 13 yr. old, Kypros will remember working as a bus boy alongside his Dad at Casa Mendoza and talking into the early morning hours over burgers & fries after work; His Grandson, Rhys will remember how his Papou would always light up with a big smile when he walked in the room, always so happy and proud to see him; His Grandson, Zack will remember his Papou (despite his Dementia), teaching him to play backgammon and always telling him how tall he was. Susan, his daughter-in-law, will remember him as THE greatest salad maker ever.

Dad was a true foodie – savouring every mouthful – even long after everyone else had finished their meal. We will all remember: his card playing, lounging in the summer sun in his backyard, turning a souvla at family BBQ’s, his love of the Maple Leafs and his soccer playing days with AC Omonia in Nicosia, Cyprus.

A proud Canadian, Dad loved his Greek music and his home country, Cyprus. Our Dad will always be remembered for his amazing sense of humour – right up until the end (even correcting Kypros’ Greek grammar!).

Finally, its important to note that he was a well-loved resident of Alexander Place in Waterdown (since December 2018) and will be remembered there for his sense of humour, his new found love of ketchup and his famous saying “Por Que No?”.

Dad passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 8:30 PM on Sunday, March 15th, 2020 at Alexander Place, in Waterdown in his 83rd year.

The family would like to thank the care team at Alexander Place (Home Area 2) and the amazing medical team at Hamilton General Hospital – specifically the 8th Floor Team!

Stylianos leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Christina; his daughter, Trula; his son, Kypros (Susan) and two Grandsons, Rhys and Zack.

Arrangements with Scott funeral home, MISSISSAUGA Chapel.

Donations to the Hamilton General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated: https://hamiltonhealth.ca/memorialgiving/
