SUN, Jane Yuk Ching - (August 26, 1954 - April 13, 2020) -

It is with great sadness that the family of Jane Yuk Ching Sun announces her passing after a brief and yet courageous battle with cancer on Monday, April 13, at the age of 65.

Born in Hong Kong on August 26, 1954, Jane graduated from University of Hong Kong with a degree in Education.  Upon graduation, Jane started her teaching career in Hong Kong for 18 years.  She had been teaching in various secondary schools, including St. Peter’s Secondary School and Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School.

In 1993, Jane married her soulmate, Andrew Fong and few months later, immigrated to Canada.  Teaching seemed to be in her blood and she picked up her teaching career again as an English teacher in the Toronto Separate School Board for another 22 years till she retired in 2017.

Jane was passionate about teaching.  She was a very dedicated teacher and always willing to devote her time and heart, tendering to the needs of her students.  She did not only care about the academics of her students, but also their overall well being. She was always ready to share her emotions and experiences with her class and making everyone feel at home.

Besides her devotion to her students, Jane was very involved spiritually. She was a Director of the Catholic Society in the high school and devoting her time and efforts in spreading the words of God.

Besides teaching, Jane enjoyed Cantonese Opera and movies performed by Yam Kim Fai and Chan Po Chu.

Jane was a very loving and caring daughter. Despite the fact that she had severe back issues that tortured her from time to time, she took full responsibilities of her parents after her brother passed away in 1991 due to cancer.

Jane leaves behind her father Chi Cheung Sun, mother Sik Koo Tong and husband Andrew Fong.

The family wishes to thank those who cared for Jane during her illness, especially to the Oncology and Nursing team at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, Dr.Rachel Kupets, Dr. Christine Lau, Dr. Helen Mackay, Dr. Eric Leung and Dr. Coish (Palliative Care).

Arrangements with Ogden funeral home, Scarborough.
