George AlexGEORGE, Alexander - Peacefully, Alexander George passed away in his ninety-second year at the Village of Erin Meadows in Mississauga in the early hours of April 21st, 2020.

The son of Vangel and Blaguna, Alex will be remembered by his wife of 68 years, Rose, his children: Katherine and her husband Ian, Diane and her husband Jan, Moreen and her late husband Henry, and James and his wife Janet.

His cherished grandchildren, Michael (Madi), Katherine (Xerxes), Candice (Matt), Heather (Andrew), Matthew, Alexandra, Alexander and William; and great grandchildren, Mila, Camden and Ella will all miss their Dedo.

Alex is predeceased by his older brother Paul, and survived by his sister Helen (Lenna) Moore. Uncle Al will be fondly remembered by all of his beloved nieces and nephews.

Alex was born in the village of Dragosh in Macedonia on August 17, 1928. His father came to Canada in 1931. Blaguna and the boys arrived to join him in December 9, 1939. Lenna was born three years later in Toronto. In 1951, Blaguna asked Alex to drive her to Windsor to attend a wedding. A mutual friend had tipped her off that a “perfect match” for him would also be attending. Rose and Alex were introduced, after which her father (Kosta Dimitry) promptly took a train to Toronto to meet the George family before allowing them to marry at Christmas that year. Thus started a love between Alex and Rose that was steadfast until he drew his last breath.

Kathy was born the following year, Diane in 1955. The Family moved to Etobicoke in 1957 where Moreen was born in 1959 and James in 1964.

There were many wonderful memories over the years. Marriages, grandchildren and great grandchildren; friends and neighbours on Hill Garden Road, and summers at the cottage on Stormy Lake. He loved the outdoors and fishing.

After working in his family’s restaurants, Alex studied to become an auto mechanic, a trade he loved. He serviced cars for General Motors and for friends and family (in the driveway to the consternation of Rose). He moved up to trucks with Chrysler and then Peterbilt. He retired in 1988. He and Rose then ran Camp Baba Dedo at the Cottage with grandchildren coming and going all summer long, and spent their winters in Florida.

Alex will be remembered by all those he touched as kind, loving, friendly and always there to help. His later years were spent first at Sunrise in Oakville and then Erin Meadows in Mississauga, usually playing cards and bingo. Alex’s family is very grateful to his caregivers Denis, Sujeeva and their team.

As a result of the ongoing quarantine, a public service is not permitted. When circumstances permit, a memorial will be held with notices issued prior to.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Macedono-Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church at ourholytrinitymbc.com. Arrangements with Ward funeral homes.
