Torrezao CecilTORREZAO, Cecil Augustus - (December 7, 1926 - February 25, 2021)

In the early hours of February 25, 2021, Cecil Augustus Torrezao, loving Husband and Father of eight children, passed away at the age of 94 years old.

Cecil was born on December 7, 1926 at Plantation Port Mourant to Subhadra Mangal and Augustus Torrezao. He married Bhagwandai Veronica “Betty” Sadhoo in 1951.

Together, they raised eight children: Sheila Ursula, Rita, Gladys Barbara, Juliet, Joseph, Moses, Peter, and Joy. He immigrated to Canada in 1982.

Cecil, who was lovingly referred to as Uncle Cecil by most people who knew him, was a familiar face in the Rose Hall Town, Guyana, as the owner proprietor of a bicycle repair shop, performing a vital service for his community and surrounding areas, especially during the fuel crisis in the 1970’s. He was also known for his adventurous spirit, often telling stories of his fishing adventures in the savannas and rainforests of Guyana and the surrounding areas, and his love of raising birds. He and his Wife had hospitable hearts, and opened their home to family and friends, ensuring that everyone had a place to stay and a warm meal to eat.

Many who knew Cecil described him as a quiet and mannered individual who was honest, courteous, and very well liked by all who knew him.

Cecil was preceded in death by his mother Subhadra, father Augustus, wife Bhagwandai Veronica, brothers Cyril and John, sisters Indrani and Edris, daughter Sheila Ursula and granddaughter Angela.

He is survived by his daughters Rita, Gladys Barbara, Juliet, and Joy, his sons Joseph, Moses and Peter, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service and interment will be held on Monday March 1st. Arrangements are entrusted with Ward funeral home, Woodbridge chapel.
