Makin DorothyMAKIN, Dorothy   - On Sunday, April 18, 2021, Dorothy Jane Makin passed away peacefully, at age 90, with family by her side.

Dorothy was born on September 28, 1930 in Bracebridge, ON, to Sarah (Ferris) and Lorne Davidson.

She was a graduate from Oshawa General Hospital's School of Nursing, class of '52, where she met her lifelong friends, June Cooke and the late Marion Hawkins.

While in training, she met her loving husband of 65 years, Ronald Makin, on a blind date.

They married in 1955 and together, Ron and "Dort" raised their children Peter (Susan Orth), Edward "Ted" (predeceased), and Nancey (Luc Lambert).

Dorothy was a loving and proud grandmother to Sarah Fowler (Ryan), Patrick Makin, Kaitlynn Makin-Peters and Jean-Luc Lambert and great-grandmother to Abigail and Quinton Fowler.

Dorothy had three younger sisters whom she loved dearly, Marilyn (Frank Legatto), Carol (Andrew Flett), and Charlotte (Gregory Land, predeceased). She was a loving aunt to Andrew, Michael, Kirstin, Megan, Anna, Robyn, Rebecca and Steven. Each of whom held a special place in Aunt Dorothy's heart. Dorothy was an active member of the St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Rexdale, a community volunteer, and stay at home Mom.

After five years living in London, ON, Dorothy and Ron moved to Richmond Hill in 1984 and then to Etobicoke in 1997 after Dorothy suffered a stroke.

With Ron's devoted care, they continued to enjoy favourite activities for many years.

In 2018, Dorothy moved to the Harold and Grace Baker Centre and Ron joined her there in 2019.

We will be forever grateful for Mom's love and will miss having her by our side cheering us on.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Harold and Grace Baker Centre for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Due to COVID-19, Dorothy's life will be celebrated at a later and safer time.
