MASTERS, Heather Marjory - Passed away peacefully on Saturday May 15, 2021 at the age of 73 at Sunnybrook Hospital after a courageous fight with multiple myeloma.
Beloved wife of the late Tom Masters. Cherished mother of Susan (Kevin), Tom (Vanessa) and Fraser (Shannon). Grandmother of Hope, Ivy, Clark, Grant, Colette, Johnny, and Jessie.
Heather was born in Montreal, Quebec but grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario with her mother Jane and brother Gordon (pre-deceased). After graduating from the University of Toronto, Heather had a long career as a high school and supply teacher in York Region. If you asked her what her favourite grade to teach was she would reply “all of them”.
Heather was a kind, selfless, outgoing person who made friends wherever she went. A fixture on Spruce St. in Aurora, she had a collection of house keys for friends in the neighbourhood in case they needed a hand. Heather’s door was always open should you need a cup of sugar and she wouldn’t hesitate to knock on yours. Corn roasts in the backyard, Victoria Day fireworks in the park and family reunions were some of her favourite memories with family and friends.
As a mother, Heather tried to give her kids everything she didn’t have growing up. Whether it was weekends at the arena, piano practices or classes at the library, Heather made sure the family was always on the go. On top of a busy life at home, Heather was always willing to volunteer her time and played an important role in the formation of the girls hockey association in Aurora.
Heather loved to read and being outside in her garden. In her later years, Heather spent time with friends at the Aurora Seniors Center playing cards and cooking with the York Region Food Network. Heather relished her time with her grandkids, collecting so many toys for them to play with her kids said her house looked like a daycare.
The family would like to thank Heather’s wonderful neighbours on Spruce Street as well as the team of doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook Hospital.
A private family gathering and cremation will take place.
