Sweeney DavidSWEENEY, David Ross  -  David Ross Sweeney, three-time Canadian Olympic Tornado Sailor, passed away September 16, 2021, after a brief illness with cancer, at age 61.

He sailed in the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympic Games.

David was in medal contention at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, but his boat broke down during the last race, leaving him in 5th place.

David spent many summers on Stoney Lake, where he developed his passion for sailing.

He and his brother Brian won CORK in 1983, 1984.

They placed 7th at the Tornado Worlds in Sydney, Australia in 1984.

David grew up in North York, and graduated from Queen's University in 1983.

In 1999, David and wife Rachael (Read), graduated from the New England School of Optometry, relocated to Atlanta, GA, and founded Vision Source Insight Eyecare.

David was predeceased by his father, Denis Brendan Sweeney, ophthalmologist.

David is immensely missed by his wife and 4 children: Catherine (21); Alexander (20); Victoria (14); and Elizabeth (12); his mother, Betty Sweeney; brother, Brian Sweeney (Eva); sister, Elizabeth Tyler (Al); as well as 14 nieces and nephews.

He was interred at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta on September 23rd.
