Hrovat RomanHROVAT, Roman - With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Roman Hrovat while surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the age of 77.

Beloved husband to Anica Hrovat for over 51 years of marriage.

Loving father of Andrej (Lara) and Peter (Gina). Cherished Ata to Steven, Thomas, Isabella, Anthony and Michelle. Dear son-in-law to Angelca Justin.

Roman will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by family, relatives, and friends in Canada and Slovenia.

Roman was born in Kamnik, Slovenia in 1944 and immigrated to Canada in 1967 where he met his true love Anica, and together they built a wonderful life with their 2 sons Andrej and Peter.

His love for hiking in the Slovenian Alps was deeply rooted in his childhood escapades, exploring the mountains that towered over his home. In 2019 at the age of 75, in a single day, he made his last voyage to the highest peak in Slovenia (Triglav – 2864m) and was able to make it to within 464 metres of the summit. He reached the Planika Triglav mountain hut and observed the magnificent scenery.

Roman was a devoted family man, who worked hard and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He believed in sharing his time and knowledge with anyone who needed a hand. He was a true outdoorsman who loved activities like mountain climbing, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, hunting, camping, fishing, and gardening. Roman often enjoyed campfires with family and friends. Teaching family and friends the sport of downhill skiing was a great source of pride and accomplishment.

Most of all, he was happiest when devoting time to his family – especially his grandchildren.

People were drawn to Roman’s honesty, optimism, genuine nature, and sense of humour. He enjoyed meeting people and telling jokes and stories. Although he will truly be missed, we take comfort in knowing he is now in God’s glowing embrace and reunited with loved ones in heaven.

Arrangements are entrusted with the Ridley Funeral Home.
