Cuffie WarrenCUFFIE, Warren Finbar - The man. The myth. The legend. If you knew him, you loved him. Full stop. He was “that” guy.

Warren passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at his home in Welland, Ontario. He was 36 years old.

Warren is survived by his wife Jasmine Cummings-Cuffie; his parents Finbar Cuffie and Kathleen James-Cuffie and his sister Latoya James. He also leaves behind many relatives including, Uncles: Trevor, John, Oscar and Derek; and Aunts: Joan, Joy, Doreen, Roselyn, Irma and Meredith.

Born on March 1, 1985, in Scarborough, Ontario during a blizzard, Warren instantly brought calmness and overwhelming joy to his doting parents. In his early years he kept them busy — he was a Boy Scout, played soccer at a high-level, competitively and was an avid seeker of adventure. In his adult years, he obtained a degree in Massage Therapy from Centennial College, a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from York University, and built a successful career at Desjardins Insurance.

He also married the woman of his dreams and best friend, Jasmine, on September 6, 2019. It was an epic celebration of love. At the reception, Warren took the microphone and delivered a heartfelt speech where he professed his love for his new bride and concluded by telling the room of family and friends that they were all detrimental in his life; he meant to say instrumental. That’s exactly who he was, he spoke from the heart even when he couldn’t find the words. He laughed, we all laughed, and the party continued — he Crip Walked on the dance floor with his mom, had drinks with old friends and caught up with just about everyone in attendance. Together, Jasmine and Warren started a beautiful life — they travelled, inspired one another to dream big, bought their second home, and bonded over their love of fitness and movies.

Of course, Warren’s enthusiasm for sports continued into adulthood as well, if he didn’t play it, he watched it and could explain the rules to you, fully. He could give you the play-by-play on netball or walk you through the ins and outs of Formula E. It’s hard to remember just how many other sports Warren was actively involved in throughout his life, but here goes: in addition to being a pro-level swimmer and earning a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he had interests in basketball, snowboarding, hockey, wrestling and boxing; rumour has it he once tried his hand at breakdancing and spent a summer powerlifting.

His passions outside of sports, were just as plenty. He was an artist, a collector of textbooks, an anime enthusiast, and a lover of music (Nate Dogg, Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang and Nas were a few of his favourites). He also loved people and enjoyed socializing, spoke to every neighbour, would cheer with a group of strangers at a Leafs game or chat-it-up with the cashier behind the counter at the gas station. Again, he was “that” guy— well-rounded, sociable, brilliant, loved by all — “that” guy!

Warren’s beautiful spirit, his childlike wonder, and his passion for life will live in our hearts forever.
