Frampton CliveFRAMPTON, Clive Hugh   -  October 2, 1944 - May 3, 2022

Clive died peacefully in hospital, with his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda, and his brother-in-law, Norman Grey-Noble, by his side.

Clive was born in London, England, to George and Annie Frampton, who predeceased him.

He was the loving brother of Joanne, Edward and Andrew, who passed away earlier this year.

Clive immigrated to Canada in 1967, arriving on the day of the country's 100th birthday.

It was, he said, the best step he ever took.

He and Linda made their home mostly in Toronto.

Clive was a long-time editor who worked at various newspapers and wire services, including The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, Financial Times of Canada, Montreal Gazette, the Financial Post, National Post, The Canadian Press and Reuters. Reporters and editors remember him with great affection as a wonderful friend and mentor.

When he would ask a reporter when he could expect their story, they would say: "It's coming." Clive would reply: "So is Christmas."

It was this type of gruff banter, his enduring warmth and depth of knowledge that so many of Clive's colleagues remember so fondly from the many places he worked. He retired in 2010.

Clive faced serious health challenges in recent years, but retained his sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by Linda, his family and many friends whose lives he touched along the way.

A celebration of Clive's life will be held at a future date, when people will raise a pint or three to their dear friend.
