VERCOLLIER, Alain - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alain Vercollier, on August 28, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 55 years, Claudine; his children, Loïc (Sarah) and Gaëlle; his grandchildren, Chloé and Cédric; as well as his extended family and many friends.
Alain was born on D-Day in France.
After completing his studies at the Sorbonne University, he came to Canada with his wife.
Alain taught French literature at York University from 1970 to 2012 and was highly regarded by his students.
He was passionate about theatre and directed numerous plays.
Alain was also an active member of Toronto's Francophone community and sat on different boards.
He was always very generous with his time and volunteered in various cultural and educational organizations.
He often said: "You have to be a little too kind to be kind enough" and lived by this principle.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Paroisse Saint-Louis-de-France, 1415 Don Mills Rd., Toronto, on Friday, September 2nd, at 10:00 a.m.
