EDDIE, Lorraine -
1933 - 2023
Lorraine left us peacefully, in her sleep, April 10th, a week after her 90th birthday.
She was one of nine brothers and sisters born on a farm in tiny Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
They had no electricity until she was six, and no inside bathroom: they took showers using a bucket full of holes nailed to an outside wall.
Once, when she was babysitting her siblings, her father gave her a shotgun and instructed her to shoot a chicken thief in the leg if she saw him. She was 11. At 20, she lit out with her sister in a car called a "Henry J." They landed in San Francisco, and thus began her life of adventure.
She lived all over the world: Vermont, Austria, England, the Philippines, settling in Toronto, with her husband, Scott, and three kids, David, Kathleen and Paul.
After her marriage ended, she had a loving relationship for over 35 years with Weldon Green, and was very close with his family, even after his death in 2020.
All her working life she was dedicated to helping others as a nurse.
She always lived by Lao Tzu's dictum: "Be thrifty with yourself that you may be generous with others." She loved to sing, especially in her church choir, and laugh, and had a great sense of humour. She adored her six grandchildren.
She lit up the world for 90 years, and will be sorely missed by the many people who loved her.
