Palahnuk JakePALAHNUK, Jake Matthew  -

January 25, 1984 - November 28, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jake Palahnuk on November 28, 2023. Jake passed away suddenly at his home in Toronto due to a heart-related issue.

Jake is survived by his mother Terri Petkau (Don) and his younger brother and biggest fan, Nicholas Palahnuk.

Jake was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

In 2009, Jake became a founding member of internationally acclaimed and Juno-nominated rock band, Young Empires. In 2011, the band released their debut EP, 'Wake All My Youth,' featuring their breakthrough track, 'White Doves,' which was followed by the 2015 release of 'The Gates' LP.

Known for their infectious hooks and high-energy sets, Young Empires would go on to entertain thousands, touring extensively and playing festivals around the world. In recent years, Jake continued to contribute to the musical community through his work in concert production management, making connections and providing support to musical artists from across the globe.

Jake is fondly remembered for his warmth, kindness, and his incredible skill. Jake was a gentle soul with a kind heart, who strongly believed in giving back and helping those around him. He championed inclusion and would spend much of his time coaching and supporting others. Jake was an incredibly generous spirit, and he will be profoundly missed.

A Celebration of Life for Jake will be held at the Royal Ontario Museum on December 18, 2023, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Donations can be made in Jake's honour to Wildlands League, a conservation organization dedicated to protecting the Ontario wilderness that Jake so loved.
