Bedford StephenBEDFORD, Stephen James  -

1967 - 2024

Steve Bedford passed away on February 18, 2024, at Toronto Western Hospital, from multiple health issues related to schizophrenia.

He was the son of Paul Bedford and the late Eugenia Bedford.

Steve graduated from the University of Toronto in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, and enjoyed working on, and solving complex mathematical problems.

adly, he never had the opportunity to apply these skills to develop a promising career after the onset of schizophrenia, in his early twenties.

This horrible disease robbed him of a normal and successful life that many others take for granted.

Steve was supported over the years by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) with in-house and outreach services, and most recently by St. Anne's Place, operated by Loft Community Services, where he lived for the past three years.

Sincere thanks go to the CAMH and St. Anne's Place staff for their ongoing dedication to serving Torontonians in need of shelter and social support. They work under extremely difficult circumstances and deserve much greater recognition. Special thanks also to the doctors and nurses of Toronto Western Hospital who provided excellent care for Steve in his final days.

He is now finally able to find the peace that eluded him for most of his life. Friends and family may leave messages on the Morley Bedford Funeral Services condolence page.

In lieu of a funeral, there will be a small, private gathering at a later date in the summer months, to celebrate his life.

Donations in Steve's memory to the CAMH Foundation at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to Loft Community Services for St. Anne's Place at www.loftcs.org would be greatly appreciated.
