Sloan LilaSLOAN, Lila Elizabeth (nee SMITH)   -

November 10, 1927 - April 16, 2024

After a very long life of love and service, our beloved mother died on April 16, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 96.

Lila was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, to parents Charles and Daisy Smith.

She studied at Toronto Bible College, where she met Douglas Sloan.

After marrying, they teamed in lifelong ministry, serving their Lord and Saviour in various churches, funeral homes, and retirement facilities including the Wexford Residence.

As well as her devotion to her family, Mum was a gifted pianist and organist. She also had a successful long-term career with the Ministry of Transportation (Ontario).

Predeceased by her husband, Rev. Douglas Sloan in 2008; she is survived by her children: Libby Sloan Amy, Norma Doran (Michael), Gordon (Sharon), and Robert (Lily); her brother, Ralph Smith; and her grandchildren, Ryan Amy, Richard Amy, Julia Sloan (Riley Campbell), and Rachel Sloan (Rudy Grow). She was also predeceased by her brother, Sterling Smith; and sisters, Verna Lefurgey and Nelda Goodwin.

We wish to thank the staff at Wexford Residence for their care and kindness to our mother despite the difficult challenges of Covid and other restrictions over the last few years.

Our special thanks to Georgina Ketteringham who eased Mum's way and became a helpmate to our whole family.

Grateful thanks to the Paul O'Connor Funeral Home for handling funeral arrangements and with whom Douglas and Lila Sloan held a ministry connection.

There will be a private service for the family.

If desired, donations may be made to any charity that is important to you.
