SLOGGETT, Shirley - (April 25, 1931 - October 2, 2021)
Died peacefully in her 91st year. Shirley was the gravitational centre to a sprawling family.
Born near Stirling, ON to her parents Doug and Effie Stapley, she grew up in the countryside.
She married Jerry Sloggett, a teacher-turned-autoworker, and moved to Oshawa to raise a family. They had three successful children – Paul, Tony and Judy – who went on to have children and grandchildren of their own.
Employed for 37 years at the Oshawa Clinic, Shirley supported the community’s access to health care – and her grandchildren’s access to disused rubber stamps.
To Shirley, milestones must be marked: she ensured no holiday, birthday or special event went uncelebrated, hosting grand feasts for family and friends.
In her spare time, she was involved with Oshawa Little Theatre, volunteered with the Trillium Gift of Life Network for organ donation, and stayed active golfing and traveling.
Few remain as dedicatedly social and curious throughout their lives. She was always the essence of beauty and grace.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Jerry and her brothers Gary and Sherwin. She is survived by her sister Sandra; her children and their spouses Paul and Cairrine, Tony and Jan, and Judy and Don; and her sister-in-law Joy.
She is missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Elise (Kyle) and Calista; Jackie, Hunter and Bailey; Jesse (Anna), Anthony and Adrian; Clifford (Sarah), Frances and Charlie; Colleen (Spencer); Cameron, Lindsay (Mitch), Miller and Chloe.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
