Holowaty JohnHOLOWATY, John Peter  -  January 22, 1939 – February 3, 2022

Passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at home surrounded by family on February 3, 2022.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Philomena (nee Gangemi), daughter Karyn Gibney, son in law Brendan Gibney, cherished grandchildren Paige and Colin, sister Mary McAoy and several nieces and nephews, brother in-law to Joe Gangemi, Josephine Gangemi, Lou Suszek and Gina Tass.

He is predeceased by his parents Anne and Peter Holowaty, brother Benjamin Holowaty, sister in law Olga Holowaty, brother in law Patrick McAvoy, niece Patricia Cooper (nee McAvoy), nephew David Holowaty, mother in law Ursula Gangemi, father in law James Gangemi, brother in law Jimmy Gangemi and sister in law Gayle Gangemi.

John spent his entire career with the Durham Catholic District School Board and served as an elementary school principal in several schools.

He was a respected leader and his staff appreciated his sense of humor and thoughtfulness.

He served as president of OECTA and was active in his parish community of St. Mary of the People.

John was always generous with a smile and had many friends.

He enjoyed travelling and had many trips to Florida with his wife and daughter. His interests included curling, photography, coin and stamp collecting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching a variety of sports live and on television. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandson Colin play hockey.

John was happiest when surrounded by friends and family especially his grandchildren with whom he was enthralled and proud of all of their accomplishments. His family is grateful for all the compassion extended by family and friends throughout his illness.

He will be missed terribly as he was a supportive, loving face for all.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8th from 3 - 8 PM, at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME (847 King St. W. Oshawa). Due to capacity limitations online registration is required.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9th at 10:30 am at St Mary of the People Parish (570 Marion Ave, Oshawa). No registration is required.

Interment will follow at Thornton Cemetery (1200 Thornton Rd, Oshawa).
