OBITUARIES  ...for the DURHAM REGION

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

HARRIS, Joanne (Runia)   - Born June 11, 1948, in Hamilton Hospital to Simon and Tillie Runia, the 4th child of 5.  Joanne grew up in Burlington and attended Central Public School in Burlington and attended M.M. Robinson High School. 

She then attended Hamilton Teachers College.  She began her career in Etobicoke.

She married Wayne Richard Harris in 1973 and they made their home in Stouffville for over 30 years and taught at different schools in York Region.

Joanne was very active in Stouffville Music Mania, Eta Lambda Sorority and various Women Teachers Groups.

Joanne and Wayne enjoyed travelling to their cottage on Bartlet Lake, and taking trips to Myrtle Beach, Florida, St. Lucia, St. Martens, Mexico, Aruba, Bahamas and England.

Joanne had to deal with Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 40 years but keeps going and still managed to enjoy their two dogs and managed the house hold when Wayne worked shift work on the Scarborough Fire Department. 

Joanne and Wayne retired in Uxbridge where they lived for 18 years. 

Joanne also enjoyed antiques and other collectibles, like clip on earrings, tins, perfume bottles and cook books. 

Joanne would like to thank all her friends that assisted her in times of need and special thanks to Pat Wilson for her friendship and support, and especially my husband Wayne.
