Hendela MaryHENDELA, Mary Hearn Hendela  - Peacefully, with her devoted family by her side, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the age of 79.

Beloved wife and partner of the late George Hendela. Loving and dedicated mother to daughters, Malaka (David) and Tara.

Cherished grandmother to Garan Reble and Sky Hunter Jackson.

Dear sister of Jim (Linda), Joseph (Wanda) and the late Edward (Grace-Ann).

Fondly remembered by her extended family and many nieces and nephews.

Mary devoted herself to a long, accomplished and dedicated career in nursing and healthcare, where she endeavoured to improve access and quality of care for all.

She believed strongly in giving back, taking significant roles on numerous charitable boards.

Mary also had a lifelong passion for learning, proudly completing her Executive MBA later in her career.

She enjoyed her well-earned retirement, passing her time reading, gardening and volunteering with community organizations, as well as spending quality time with her daughters, grandchildren, friends and family.

She fondly looked forward to summer visits "home" in Brigus, Newfoundland, which held a special place in her heart.

Friends may pay respects at Saint Patrick's Basilica, Ottawa (Kent at Nepean St.), on Saturday, May 4, 2024, after 10 a.m. A Mass in Memory of Mary will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memoriam donations may be directed to the Council on Aging of Ottawa.

Arrangements for future interment of ashes in Newfoundland will be made in the coming months.
