Raney SheilaRANEY, Sheila Georgina (Dick)   - Died January 14, 2019, aged 89.

Sheila will be missed by her children Paul (Winn) and Ann (Helmut), her brother Bob (Dorine), sisters Carol (Wally) and Heather, as well as her grandchildren Kyle, Brandon, Brooke, and Courtney and their mother, her nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Sheila was born on November 10, 1929 to Ina Campbell and Robert H. Dick at her maternal grandparents house in Burlington.

She first lived with her parents and older brother Bob in a log cabin in Chapleau, then above the family store in Toronto before starting school with her brother in Scotland.

Sheila graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. She was a top student in all the sciences and maths, had a talent for athletics (from cheerleading to hockey) and was known by all in the school for her good nature.

She started as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Women's College Hospital in 1948.

Sheila was married in 1954 and continued working until her first child, Paul, was born in 1959.

Sheila's sharp mind and skills were very highly regarded by doctors and staff alike particularly supervisors Dr. Alice Grey and Dr. Eva Mader MacDonald, later Dean of Medicine.

Daughter Ann was born in 1963. In 1967 Sheila was the skip for her Thornhill County Club team that won the Southern Ontario Tankard.

At 88 she still regularly attended the community gym and pool. Sheila was a person liked and loved by many with a wonderful combination of kindness, warmth, strength, good humour, curiosity, and wisdom.

All friends and family are invited to a luncheon in her honour at the Thornhill Golf and Country Club (7994 Yonge St.) on Sunday, January 27th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We ask not for flowers or donations but stories. Please jot down your memories of Sheila for the family and send them to Ann Raney, 2415 17th Sideroad, King City, ON L7B 1A3, or send an email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
