Cruz JimmyCRUZ, Jimmy Sun Dela - 86 years old, lost his battle with lung cancer on December 2, 2020 at his home in Scarborough, Ontario.

He was born on the 3rd of October, 1934, to Perico Dela Cruz (Father) and Kiat Sy (Mother) in China. His father made a decision to move to the Philippines when he was 6 years old in the hopes for a better future. He has lived there almost all his life.

In his elementary years, he attended Tiong Se Academy. As the years went by, he realized that school was not for him so he started working in their family’s wine store. Later on, he shifted to working for Everest Lumber, a construction supply company that his father partially owned.

On January 21st, 1961, he married Juanita Teng. Three and half years later (3 ½), they had their first-born son, Chris and six (6) more other children through the years. In June, 1994, Jimmy with his wife and 4 of his 7 children migrated to Toronto, Canada.

He was a fun-loving person. He always had a positive attitude on everything. Building and making things is something that he loves to do the most. Jimmy is a self-proclaimed ‘DIY’ Master. Tell him what you need and he will do everything in his power to make it happen. He loves collecting anything and everything. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”; this saying is so true for Jimmy. He finds value in everything he sees, no matter how useless or insignificant it may be to most people. A good word to describe Jimmy is that he is persistent. Once he starts on a task, he will see it through, no matter how difficult the task may be, until the job is done. To his family, Jimmy is a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He has a way about him that makes you feel really special.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Juanita.

Loving son Chris and wife, Jocelyn and their three (3) children, Chriscelle, Gulsvert, and Celine; loving daughter Tralin and her five (5) children, Jane, Mark (daughter Anya), Kenn, Nikkee, and Leand; loving daughter Wenhelz and husband David and their three (3) sons, Zach and twins Theo and Tim; loving son Holvert; loving daughter Faergels (Gigi) and husband Sennen and their two (2) sons, Justin and Jerome; loving son Kuls and wife Coral and their two (2) sons Brandon and Nathan; loving son Zeigys and wife Penelope and their two (2) sons Riley and Liam.

Jimmy will forever be remembered by his family and friends. His legacy will forever live in the hearts and minds of everyone he has met in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Perico Dela Cruz and Kiat Sy.

Due to the pandemic, visitation on December 19, 2020 will only be for immediate family only. It will be held at Bernardo Funeral Homes. A funeral mass to be performed by Fr. Martin will be live streamed, and the immediate family will be providing the information on how to access the live stream to family and friends who wish to virtually join us, as more details are available. Interment will follow.

In memory of Jimmy Sun Dela Cruz, memorials or donations may be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
