FENNEY, Connie Lynn (Quick) - (1946 - 2021) - It is with great sadness and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Connie (Quick) Fenney on February 25th, 2021.
Born Connie Lynn Quick on September 13th, 1946 at St. Joseph hospital in London, Ontario. She was the youngest of four children to Russell and Lyda Larene Quick of Glencoe, Ontario.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband Ken Fenney 2019, her mother Lyda Larene Quick 1948, father Russell Quick, 1968, brother Ron Quick 1957, brother Fred Quick 2000, sister Audrey Henderson 2016, and niece Pat Levitt 2016.
She is survived by nephew Jim (Apolonia) Henderson of Ridgetown, niece Linda (Pat) Lewis of Dresden, and niece Pam (Kevin) Mitchell on Melbourne. Aunt Connie will also be missed by eight great nephews and nieces, seven great-great nephews and nieces.
Connie was only two years of age when her mother Larene died of cancer in 1948. Her sister Audrey, 19 years her senior, quit her job to stay at home to raise Connie and her brother Fred.
In 1949, Audrey married Glenn Henderson and as a couple they continued to care for Connie and Fred as their family. Connie lived with the Henderson family as Glenn’s work moved him around southern Ontario to the towns of Dorchester, Wyoming, Chatham and finally Dresden.
In 1961 Connie moved back to Glencoe to reside with her father Russell and brother Fred where she would complete her high school education. During these years she held a part-time job at Rosso’s shoe store. Connie did well in high school and had many friends in this new setting. She was also a majorette in the school band.
Following high school, Connie completed the secretarial course at Westervelt College in London and began her work career with Ontario Hydro on Wellington Road in London. At this time she would marry George Plaskan of Glencoe. This union only lasted a few years and they were divorced 1975.
It was 1982 when Connie married the love of her life, Kenneth George Fenney. Together they would move to Toronto, continue their careers and pursue their many life passions including, skiing, curling, scuba diving, sailing and travel.
Connie retired from Ontario Hydro with 25 years of service and formed her own company “Planit Management," setting up and arranging conventions, conferences and meeting events for many corporations and organizations. Her attention to details and organizational management served her well during this second career.
It was sailing that became Connie and Ken’s great love as they became members of the Toronto Royal Canadian Yacht Club and later the Port Credit Yacht Club. In the year 2000, they took their retirement and sailed their beloved sailing vessel “OZ” down the eastern coast of the United States to Florida. For the next 19 years, they would winter in the Bahamas Islands, skipping from port to port and hideaway coves enjoying the turquoise waters, warm breezes and shimmering sunsets.
The summers were spent back in Ontario where Connie and Ken reconnected with family and friends and often took on renovation projects for anyone needing help with repairs and upgrades. Everyone appreciated their talent and expertise.
It was sailing that brought so many wonderful experiences and new friends into their life, and the loss of Ken in 2019 and Connie today that will bring back those memories to their sailing family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Connie, may you always have warm winds at you back and dazzling sunsets on the horizon.
