Smith JohnSMITH, John Francis   -  Passed away peacefully, at Scarborough Centenary Hospital, on November 28, 2021, at the age of 88.

He was the loving and devoted husband of his Doll, Dorothy Mae (Foliot), having just celebrated their 65th anniversary together.

Theirs was a special and unbreakable union, and an example to us all of unselfish love.

He was the caring and kind father to Peter (Barbara), Tim (Jennifer), Julie, Maureen and Angèle, and the proud grandfather of Sean (Ariel), Justin (PJ), Brendan (Ayse), Graham (Nefeli), Lauren (Aaron), Jacinta and Emmett.

He also had a special fondness for his brand new great-grandson Ari. Although generally quiet and calm, there was a lot going on beneath the surface.

He was a skeptic and a fierce advocate for doing things the right way. He had a gentle sense of humour and loved bad puns.

He was a deep thinker who loved quantum physics and crossword puzzles.

A star athlete in his younger days, he continued to coach and referee in later life and was an avid curler. He loved to cheer for the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs and had no tolerance for "bad calls". He loved travelling and music, especially Sunday morning opera on the radio. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, on Thursday, December 2nd, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 520 Sherbourne Street, on Friday, December 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. Attendance at the visitation and the funeral is restricted to those who have been fully vaccinated and are masked.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Heart & Stroke, Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
