Haines BruceHAINES, Bruce Marshall Haines, QC   -  Passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023, at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by family. Bruce was born April 4, 1936, in Toronto to Justice Edson Haines and Vera Haines.

He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Lois Haines; son, Kristopher Benwell; daughter, Deborah Haines; and brother, Paul Haines.

Bruce is survived by his sister Barbara Konst; daughter, Melanie Benwell (Chris Patheiger); son, Chris Haines (Andria Ink); granddaughter, Grace Haines and grandson, Jack Haines.

After graduating from the University of Toronto, Bruce was called to the bar and had a successful career in law.

For all the high-profile casework he did for over 40 years, nothing brought him more joy and satisfaction than the pro bono cases he worked on at the end of his career.

Through these pro bono cases, Bruce truly exhibited his compassion and legal expertise by giving an articulate voice to those whose voice had faded due to unfortunate circumstances.

People will remember Bruce as compassionate and caring. He loved helping injured animals and fostered and over-fed many stray cats.

Bruce regularly walked around High Park feeding squirrels, chipmunks, birds and other creatures.

Bruce was an active member of Kingsway-Lambton United Church and loved his friends in the congregation.

He was an active member of the Bible study group and devoted much of his spare time to reading scripture of many denominations.

A memorial service will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter.

Now that Bruce is in Heaven with our beloved, departed ones, these creatures could surely use more care.
