UPTON, Helen Isabelle (nee BIRD)   -

February 17, 1936 - January 22, 2024

It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Isabelle Upton.

Helen was part of a close and loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Tim, who passed in 2015; her parents, Violet and Tom Bird; and her son-in-law, Eric.

She leaves behind children, Julie, Anthony, and Heather (Steve); as well as grandchildren, Jordana (Crosby), Jesse (Alexandra), Rachel (Jamie), Luke (Rachel), Sam, and Ella (Nick), all of whom loved her very much. Helen was born on February 17, 1936, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

She came to Canada at the age of 20, landing in Vancouver in search of adventure.

She was promptly swept off her feet by Tim, her loving husband of 56 years. Together, they built a family and traveled across Canada for Tim's work, living in Vancouver, Edmonton, and London before settling in Oakville.

Helen treasured special friendships from her childhood in Edinburgh, as well as the many friends she and Tim shared so many happy times with in Canada. She loved dinner parties, afternoon teas, hours sitting in a sunny garden reading, watching Coronation Street, and cheerfully tapping her foot to a good tune.

The family would like to express gratitude to her personal care provider Bernadette and the caring staff at Sheridan Villa for their dedicated care and attention during the last years of Helen's life.

There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26th at Kopriva Taylor with a small reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Helen's family asks that you consider a donation to the Sheridan Villa Long Term Care Program.
