HUDSON, Merle Josephine  -

May 7, 1935 - March 16, 2024

Merle Hudson passed away peacefully, at Grace Hospital, Toronto, on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in her 89th year.

Merle was born in New Zealand and is survived there by brother, Trevor; nephew, Clive (Brenda); niece, Tania; and sister-in-law, Adrienne.

Merle did her teacher training in New Zealand and after teaching there for a time, immigrated to Toronto and was hired by the Toronto Board of Education.

She taught elementary school in Toronto for a number of years, later becoming the first woman to teach Industrial Arts in the public board. Before she retired, she became the principal of Palmerston Avenue Public School. In her retirement, she was the president of the Swansea Area Senior's Association, enriching the lives of seniors in her community.

Merle enjoyed following and playing sports, especially badminton and tennis, singing in a choir and was a very good handywoman.

A Celebration of Merle's life will be held at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, 2357 Bloor St. W., from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, April 7th.

If you wish, donations can be made in Merle's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
