WHITFIELD, Mary Jean  -  Passed away in her 95th year at the Sara Vista Long Term Care Home in Elmvale on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

She shared a remarkable love story for almost 80 years with her best friend and adored husband, Jack.

Mother of Joanne (Tom) Hards, Catherine (the late Bob) Caville, Don (Karen) Whitfield, Peter Whitfield (Johanna Columbus) and Tracey Whitfield (Tom Stoddart), she was the cherished grandmother of Michael Hards, Gillian Hards (Crispin Smith), Gregory Whitfield (Sarah Townes) and Janessa and Julia Whitfield.

The family deeply appreciates the staff at the Sara Vista Long Term Care Home for their wonderful care. Mary was an accomplished student winning many awards both in her hometown of Whitby and the University of Toronto where she majored in languages learning to speak Spanish, French and German.

Moving with their family to Elmvale in 1953, Mary and Jack built Whitfield Drugs into a highly respected business.

The Woodland Beach Store was entirely Mary's operation and a remarkable success. She was the perfect example of an astute business manager and mentor.

So many of her staff remember her example with admiration, gratitude and fondness. From an early age, she had boundless curiosity marked with a sense of fun in discovering the world's grandeur.

Above all, Mary was caring, principled and lived her faith in all she did. Jack, her children and grandchildren were at the centre of her life.

In Mary's memory, friends are asked to donate to St. John's United Church, Elmvale or the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, Midland.

Visitation Wednesday, May 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home, 15 Yonge St. S., Elmvale.  Service Thursday, May 31st 11:00 St. John's United Church, Elmvale.
