HOLTZ, August 'Gus' - Born September 22, 1927 in Stettler, Alberta. Died February 10, 2021 in Whitby, Ontario.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of August Holtz, “GUS” for short, at Taunton Mills Retirement Residence where he received special care.
He is survived by his wife and caring companion, Dorothy Horwood.
August was the son of Leo Holtz and Eveline Schumann of European descent, and brother of Mary Heers of Red Deer, Alberta, all deceased.
His career began in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he became a Communications Officer.
Following his discharge in 1953, he developed an in-depth knowledge of computer technology and inventiveness that continued throughout his professional life.
As a licensed Radio Amateur, he was a distinguished member of The Quarter Century Wireless Association Inc. His interest in communication was exemplified by his outgoing, congenial, likeable personality.
He is remembered with love and affection by his stepchildren, John, Wendy and Lawrence, their families and everyone he knew, for his keen sense of humour.
This combination of characteristics, possessed by very few people, has resulted in a universal response; “When I think of Gus I feel happy. He always made me smile."
Gus will be laid to rest at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
