Brain JamesBRAIN, James Robert (Rob) - (August 7th, 1938 – February 9th, 2022)

Peacefully at rest after a brief battle with cancer, Rob passed away at home surrounded by family, in his 83rd year.

Loving son of the late Daisy and Harold Brain.

Cherished husband of Lorna Castaneda Brain (nee Hearst), and the late Margaret Brain (nee Lazar).

Beloved father of David (Gabrielle) and Steven (Rebecca).

Adored ‘Grandpa’ of Caitlyn, Devin and Zoe.

Brother of Marlene Andrejicka and the late John ‘Terry’ Brain (Margaret) and Uncle Rob to his many nieces and nephews.

Rob always enjoyed spending time with his family during celebrations and will be missed by his loving cousins Adele Harris (Paul), Pam McBride (Clive), James Wilkinson (Marg), John Brain (Maryse) and Edward Brain (Lisette) and their extended families.

A lifelong resident of Oshawa, Rob enjoyed a long and successful career with General Motors, working for 43 years in each of the Oshawa offices before retiring in 2001.

Rob was a lover of music his whole life. As a young boy, singing as a soloist with the choir at St. Gregory's Church, he was invited to sing several times at St. Michael's Cathedral in Toronto.

Rob will be remembered by his many friends including those with whom he golfed and played cards. He was a fine athlete whose "happy place" was golfing at the Oshawa Golf Club, where he was a junior member and caddy in the 1950’s, then rejoining as a full member in 1992.

One of his favourite past times was playing cards; be it with his monthly poker club, cribbage, gin rummy and of course chase the ace.

The family wishes to thank the team who provided Rob with palliative care, Dr. H. Burke, Dr. E. Osborne, the Palliative Nursing team and Nurse Next Door.

In Lieu of Flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson Canada.

If you would like to pay your respects you can sign up for a visitation on Wednesday February 16th, 2022. * Link will be available Monday February 14th.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday February 17th at 10am at St. Gregory the Great Parish, Oshawa. *Link will be available Monday February 14th.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at  oshawafuneralservices.com for the Brain family.
