SCAGGS, Peter Brian - Peacefully at his home, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Brian Scaggs on March 13, 2022.
Peter was born on September 17, 1929 in Essex England, the only son of Doris Evelyn Scaggs (nee Mahoney) and Alfred George Scaggs.
Peter emigrated to Canada in May 1959 and began a career in the graphic arts industry that spanned over 40 years.
He subsequently met the love and joy of his life Elaine (nee Stewart) and was married in August 1962.
Peter’s career included prominent book publishing positions with McCorquodales, McLelland &Stewart and the University of Toronto Press.
During his career, Peter worked with many prominent authors such as Margaret Atwood, Farley Mowat, Conrad Black, Richard Gwynn, Peter Gzowski, Peter Newman and Mordecai Richler.
His passion was producing books on Canadian art and artists including the Group of Seven, Robert Bateman and many others.
Peter is past President (1975) of the The International Club of Printing House Craftsmen (Toronto Chapter).
Peter will be fondly remembered by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He is now at peace and with Elaine once again.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Taunton Mills, Lakeridge Health and the love and support received from Carlene at the Scarborough Health Network Nephrology Home Dialysis Program.
As there will be no memorial service, the family requests any donations be made to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation.
