Pearce JohnPEARCE, John (Jack)  -

December 25, 1929 -  June 24, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Ernest Pearce at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls on June 24, 2020 in his 91st year.

Born in Oshawa, Ontario on December 25, 1929: predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Rose Pearce (nee Aitchison), his brother, James, and his sister May.

Jack leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Marguerite, with whom he shared a wonderful life of love, laughter and adventure. Marguerite was the love of his life of which they had a special relationship.

He is also survived by his sons Mark (Joanne) and Terry (Patricia); several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and also many nieces and nephews.

Jack grew up in Oshawa, Ontario and started his working career there in 1948 when he started with the S.S. Kresge Company.

This would be the only employer of his working life and he would remain with the company for 42 years until his retirement in 1990.

Jack had a distinguished career with the company with progressive positions that took him to many cities across Canada. Besides Oshawa, he worked in Toronto, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Edmonton, Welland and Brampton.

In 1969, he became store manager of K-Mart in Shoppers World in Brampton, then District Manager and finally Buyer, Men’s and Boy’s Wear, at the company’s head office in Toronto and later in Brampton.

As a Buyer for K-Mart, Jack had the opportunity to travel extensively on business for the company that took him to such countries as China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea.

Jack loved to golf and played right up to 2019. Even though he had reduced his game from 18 holes to 9 holes over the last few years, he continued to walk the course and never used a golf cart. He was a member of the Brampton Golf Club for over 45 years. In addition, he loved fishing and cottage life. Jack and Marguerite always enjoyed family get-togethers and hosted wonderful dinner events for Christmas, Thanksgiving and many other special occasions.

In retirement, Jack and Marguerite purchased a retirement home in Port St. Lucie, Florida where they would spend 6 months each year. They enjoyed their Florida home for over 25 years where they had a large network of friends.

Jack and Marguerite also enjoyed travelling and had vacations in Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

In December 2019, Jack and Marguerite moved to Port Colborne, Ontario and subsequently sold their condo in Brampton. Here, they would live close to their son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Patricia. This past May, Jack even rejoined the Port Colborne Golf Club where he was last a member in 1967.

Unfortunately, his sudden declining health prevented him from playing this season.

Jack will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Thank you to the Nurses and Doctors at the Greater Niagara General Hospital who cared for him during his final days after his stroke.

A Celebration of Life for Jack & Marguerite will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. at  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME  (124 King St. E., Oshawa).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
