NAISMITH, A. Leonard Naismith  -

1958 - 2024

It is with the deepest sadness that we let you know that Leonard Naismith was carried into his eternal home on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, to be with his Lord and Saviour.

Our hearts are broken but our faith is not shaken because we know that Leonard is with God. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sharon; cherished sons, Kevin (Brittany) and Brian (Elyssa); dearest brothers Gord (Donna) and Dave (Ruth); loving in-laws Alan and Marilyn Veale and a host of other precious relatives and friends.

Although Leonard was born in Irvine, Scotland, he has spent most of his life in Ontario. Leonard began his career as a Lab Technician at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he was on the team that found the gene for Cystic Fibrosis.

He then switched to the world of Education and enjoyed many years as a Teacher, Vice- Principal and Principal for the TDSB. He was a passionate educator, known for his kindness, generosity, and warmth. In 2018, Leonard was diagnosed with cancer and in 2020, he suffered a stroke.

It did not look very promising for him at that time.

However, it was at this point he was put in the care of Dr. Anthony Lott from Sunnybrook Hospital who, along with his team, has been incredibly outstanding in all ways for prolonging and preserving Leonard’s quality of life.

We also value the wonderful care of Dr. Prakash and all those involved at Lakeridge Health - Ajax/Pickering on the night he passed.

Leonard was a born-again Christian and his goal was to live his life for the Lord each and every day.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating, in his memory, to one of Leonard's favourite places. Leonard was currently the principal of Lillian P.S. in TDSB and they will be creating a legacy project for their school and community in his honour - The Lillian P.S. Legacy Fund (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Guelph Bible Conference Centre (https://www.guelphbiblecc.com/) where Leonard spent many summers teaching Bible stories to children.

A Celebration of Leonard’s Life is planned for Sunday, April 7th, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Brook Community Church, 60 Kearney Drive, Ajax, ON. All are welcome to attend - light refreshments will be served following the service.
