It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Velika Kalogiany on March 20, 2024, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, at the age of 99.
Velika was born in Statitsa, Macedonia (Greece), in 1925 and immigrated to Canada in 1951.
Here, she began the formidable challenge of reuniting a family fragmented by the trials of war.
With an unyielding determination that became the hallmark of her character, she triumphantly fulfilled her mission, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and compassion that will forever inspire those touched by her remarkable journey.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Joanne Grouios (James); beloved grandchildren, Peter Grouios (Gisela), Kathie Grouios, and Lisa Brand (Shawn); and dearest great-grandchildren, Luka and Olivia. She is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Risto; cherished daughter, Sophie; loving parents, Stoina and Norman; and dear brother, Kole. To us, she was "Mom" and "Baba," a beacon of love and guidance.
Though she may have left our sight, her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts. We love you, and we will miss you dearly, but your spirit will live on in us, and we will never forget you.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at York Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Burial to follow.
