James WilliamJAMES, William 'Bill' - William James, C.M., Ph.D., LL.D., P.Eng. Bill passed away on September 4, 2018, aged 89.

Loving partner of the late Jalynn H. Bennett.

Father of Paul, Bill (Franke), Anne (Edward Rogers), Mary (Rob Witham), George (Sheliagh), and John (Christy) James. Stepfather to Alexandra, Braden (Jen Houghton) and Sam (Jennifer Bassett) Bennett.

Beloved grandfather to David (Ada) and Bronwyn James; Emma (deceased), Andrew and Tom Witham; Keelin, Arlyne and Conall James; and William C. James; Olivia, India and Kai Morgan; Atlin, Reese and Marin Bennett; Mackenzie and William Sievert. Great grandfather to Ellie James.

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1929, Bill earned his Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Toronto and his Ph.D. in Geological Science from McGill University in Montreal. He started his career working with his father in the mining consulting firm of James, Buffam & Cooper. He went on to work with major companies including Noranda Mines, and to lead Falconbridge, Denison Mines, and Inmet Mining.

Throughout his career, Bill James demonstrated a charismatic style that made him one of the great characters of Canadian mining and business. He was honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2002.

Above all, Bill loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at Georgian Bay, Stonehurst NS, Osler Bluff Ski Club, and at his farm in Halton Hills. His generosity, enthusiasm and positive spirit were inspirational. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, September 8th, at Blessed Sacrament Church. (24 Cheritan Avenue, Toronto) at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. Arrangements with Rosar-Morrison funeral home, Toronto.
